The demon moved slowly down the street. He stuck to the shadows and alleyways to cover his scent. Anger rolled off of him in waves as he headed to a basement door. He made his way inside, slamming the door behind him.

“Sir! What happened to you?” A butler darted forward and pulled out a chair. “They hurt you! We should go back to our world and get this treated!”

“I am not going back to be jumped and have my title taken from me. Bandage this up and bring me a slave so I can heal.” The demon sat in the chair and removed his hood. He looked almost human, but his eyes gave him away. They were red and blue, matching the symbols glowing beneath his skin. “They have a new Traveler. She closed the portal before I could let chaos reign on the campus.”

“I warned you about Pack lands. They have many shifters about! We need to tell the king about the Traveler. This could change his plans on Caledonia.”

The demon grabbed the butler’s shirt. “You aren’t telling my father anything until I bring that Traveler to him. I want to know everything about that girl. She is my key. Father would do anything for a Traveler under his control.”

“This is beyond what we were told,” the butler complained weakly. “As is, the king knows nothing of this. That’s dangerous, sire!”

The prince growled, “Plans change. We are going to get that girl and cement my place as heir to the throne. My sister won’t even see it coming.” A dark smile covered his face, showing pointed fangs protruding slightly past the rest of his pointed teeth. “Go get that slave. I need to heal.”

The butler left, and the prince tried to relax back in the chair. His leg throbbed, but the pain didn’t bother him. Just another flesh wound that would heal with the right type of snack. His mind raced as he tried to figure out his next steps. This wonderful opportunity wouldn’t have fallen in his lap if his sister hadn’t been named heir. Maybe that wasn’t the disaster he’d thought it was. With care, this could be the biggest opportunity of his life.
